Unplugged

I decided to skip January's blog, even though I had it ready to go on Jan. 8th, because I wanted to get settled back into my regular grind to see if it would affect my outlook on this particular subject. So the back story here is that I started this year off in Cartagena, Columbia for a good friends wedding, and the experience did what I needed it to do; change my life. The idea was to leave as much technology at home as possible (debit and credit cards, cell phones, cameras etc.) and see what would happen. would I be able to survive for a week? How would I go without calling/texting/emailing 95% of the people who really matter in my life? (the other 5% came with me on the trip, so I was ok there!) To be honest, the experience made me realize how reliant we've become on things that truly are NOT necessities. If I needed to talk to someone, I'd walk to their hotel room. If we needed to go anywhere, we would walk there. Even in a country where English was not the first language, we survived and had a blast doing it... and now that I'm home, I'm slowly trying to keep with these trends. We live in a society that is so caught up with these distractions, we really forget what it's like to live, and to be honest, forget the real important things in life. I've spent the last month making sure I spend time with the people who really matter to me and have actually cut my hours at work in order to do so. Don't forget about the people and things you love just because you're caught up in the everyday craziness. Make time for those things before it's too late. I've spent the last three years so caught up in the monster that is my career that I've lost friends and missed out on special occasions because of it. So maybe it's fitting that I'm posting this so close to Valentine's Day (which by the way is the day after my Godson's 6th Birthday) because we should try to remember why we go through the everyday grind, and the people who helped us get to where we need to be, and thank them for always being there.

To Matt, Claire, Chester, Justin, Alfred, Anthony, Emily, Nicole, Adriana, Michie B., Mama and Papa Bear, Mr.boy, Oddz, Zeus, Weenie, Kevino, Lebert, Jangus & Double A, Krogg, Drizzle and anyone else I didn't mention (y'all know who you are)... thanks for being here and sticking it out with me and helping me realize my dreams. Wouldn't be here without you!
